WhatsApp “delete from me” feature use case
“Delete from me” WhatsApp feature Use case Analysis
On LinkedIn I became the part of discussion regarding *Delete from me* feature. Many people I interacted with felt like this feature was useless. They were not able to understand why this feature was introduced in first place and current Use case .So I decided to address this .
Being a Product person ,I never consider any feature useless , it’s placement can be wrong or how it’s being delivered to customer but key is empathy to find the right audience & use case.
But “Delete from me” is very much in context with users and satisfy the needs of specific audience and even create delighters in some personas

“Delete from me” is being used when that chat is not useful for you anymore but it is useful for another”
Like for example:
(Persona example one)
A young boy in his 20’s took some pictures of papers needed by his father , he sent those pictures to his father but after sending he will use *Delete from me* because it’s not of his use but of his fathers and he wants to keep the relevant chats on top.
(Persona example two)
A mother of two delete texts and messages on daily basis from different chats which she thinks is not of her use anymore
She is part of Travel group in WhatsApp she only keep those chats of travel that are interested to her and delete the rest.
So Delete for me has it’s own context
WhatsApp has huge audience and multiple personas with different needs, wants so this feature lies with behavioral and physiological aspect of user.
“Second Pain point which I identified”
That many people accidentally used Delete from me instead of delete for everyone.
This needs to be addressed as well multiple solutions are there but can be implemented after user testing
1:Changing the place of Delete from me with Delete for everyone OR
2:Making the Delete 3 step procedure so that error rate minimize OR
3: Allowing the user to Delete for everyone even after using Delete from me.
